Some moments are more than just memories.

Some mark the beginning of everything. My story starts at sea.

When I was four years old, I fled Vietnam with my family on a small boat in the open sea. Fear, hunger and hope were our companions. At the time, I had no idea that this experience would shape who I am today.

The artwork

„On the water“

Oil on canvas – 100 × 70 cm

I have carried this work inside me for many years, and it has finally taken shape.

The flower symbolises the miracle of our survival. The hand in the background symbolises the constant danger we faced. This is a common theme in stories of escape.

For me, this artwort represents memory and survival.

It tells my story, while also representing all those whose lives begin in transition — whether that be in-between, in motion, or, as in my case, at sea.

A moment that changes everything

Someone very dear to me recently passed away. Their family helped us settle in Switzerland many years ago. They provided us with security and made us feel that we were not alone.

This work is dedicated to them, too. And to all the people who build bridges when everything is new. It reminds me that humanity often emerges when it is needed most.

It's a feeling with which many are familiar - beginning

Perhaps everyone experiences a moment in their life that changes everything. A moment that evokes both fear and hope. Do you remember a moment when it all began for you?
